This is a super cool gift for the boy ( or not so girly girl ) in your life. I hardly ever get to make anything for my son because he is so hard to please and lets face it there is not much to do for a boy, but this He loved. I also made one for his cousin Alex who is the same age and also very hard to please.

Gabby's hair pins

Everyone who knows Gabby knows she loves her hair down, hates pony tails, has never really liked to wear bows either! I practically forced her to wear headbands, but now not even that...so, I thought I lure her into wearing a hair clip (the alligator kind) but since she has tons of hair they came right off, then we moved on to the bobby pins, these are actually not for children so they worked perfectly on her! Just to please her I made some with an old abercrombie top, we cut off all the pieces with the logo on it and I added epoxy for durability and VOILA! we have a winner...they look super cute and trendy -which is what matters to her :)

I made this for my sister Angela, whose baby is 13...she fell in love with the idea of the covered wipe case and since she has no need for wipes anymore I sugessted she store her receipts there...if you'd ever seen her purse you'd understand what I'm talking about : )

Lili's (Samantha) 6th birthday present...I whipped up a last minute project...wasn't sure what Lili is into so I took a chance. Hope she liked it -at least her mom did : )

appliqued T'shirt

this is the simpliest, cutest and cheapest way to personalize or recover a t'shirt. Anyone who has kids has had a good top messed up by a stubborn stain, well no need to retire that garment, just cover it up and create a brand new top along the way. You can applique a number for your b-day, your initial etc...you get the point. You will need:
1 to print and cut a template from your computer, in this case I'll be using the number 5 (for Belli's upcomming birthday)
2 a scrap of fabric oy your choice (if you have no fabric at all go to the craft store and purchase 1/8 of a yard for about $1 -this is the least they'll sell)
3 fusible web (again craft store, in the fabric dept. buy 1/8 for about .25)
4 iron, sewing machine or needle and thread and scissors
5 t'shirt (if you're making this a practice project, use an old top, just in case)
I'll demonstrate on the birthday top: step1 First I got a number 5 and enlarged it to fill the page, printed and cut, step2 then I cut 1 square of fabric and 1 square fusible web, step3 next I ironed the fusible web to the wrong side of the fabric, step4 peel off paper from fusible web, step5 trace template backwards still on wrong side of fabric (sticky part), step6 cut and you will have your template ready for ironing on garment step7 I ironed number 5 to my t'shirt, step8 then on to the sewing machine, (if you do not have a sewing machine you can do this by hand with needle and thread, I have done a couple while in the carpool lane or while waiting at the doctor's) on sewing machine just do a straight stitch and in 2 minutes youre done.
If you want to you can skip step3 tru step 7 and just pin your fabric template (w/out the fusible web) onto your garment and sew, but the fusible web really makes it easier for the template to stay in place while you sew and it also gives it a more proffessional look specially if its for a gift.

I had planned a couple of things for the reception which rightfully has been cancelled. The favors I decided to go with are a small 1.5" glass vial with holy water and are matched with a ball chain and can very easly be worn as necklaces or hung on the rearview mirror. I purchased small gift boxes and added blue ribbon with a personalized tag. In all each favor cost $2.00, which is pretty good since I had to make 20.

Fernando Olvera

Finally happening! He is almost 3 yrs. old and couldn't be postponed any longer...although his family is sadden by the unexpected and unfortunate illness of one of their young family members for whom we are all praying, Fernando will get Baptized on Sat. Sept 19.

carefree childhood

I recently surprised myself when I allowed my 4 yr. old (Belli) to play out in the rain. She didn't even have to beg! and to tell you the truth I really enjoyed it...It is amazing how much fun a child has when they have no pressures and are just allowed to be themselves. She jumped in the rain clothes, shoes and all, without a care in the world that Mommy was going to yell at her "do not get dirty"...as a child, I remember spending all my free time outside. I played in the heat, I played in the rain, I played in the cold, it didn't matter and my mother never said "is too hot to play outside" like I do to my kids most of the time. I did not watch TV at all, and there was one! but I was more likely to be found with my older sister and younger brother playing with the rest of the neighborhood kids, or climbing the mango trees to pick the ripe fruit for a snack, or perhaps walking barefoot in the puddles after it rained. We had fun, and we NEVER complained about being bored. I do, however have my fare share of scars, specially on my knees, but its a good remainder of how happy life was. It is not possible at times to allow my kids to grow up as I did, but it is worth it to at least try to give them a little taste of what a carefree childhood should be before they grow up and have adult responsibilities.

Becky's birthday present
